Khaleda Zia's bail petition dismissed

The Supreme Court has rejected the bail petition submitted by the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Thursday afternoon.

The court also directed the authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)  to take action on the improved treatment of Khaleda Zia.

On Wednesday, the BSMMU submitted its latest health report to the Registrar General of the Supreme Court. 

The report was presented to a six-member appeal bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Thursday. 

Tight security measures have been taken in and out of the Supreme Court over the bail hearing of the graft case.

On November 28, the Appellate Division adjourned the hearing till December 5 on the bail petition filed by Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. 

At the same time, the court directed the BSMMU authorities to submit her health test report within the deadline.

However, as the BSMMU authorities did not submit the report on December 5, the court adjourned the hearing till December 12, ordering the submission of the health test report by BSMMU on December 11.

Following the court order, the BNP-backed lawyers created a chaotic situation at the Appellate Division's courtroom.
