Khaleda's release period extended for 6 months

The suspension of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's prison term has been extended for another six months.

The relevant file has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs with the approval of the Ministry of Law in this regard.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq confirmed the information to The Daily Samakal on Thursday afternoon.

The law minister said, "We have given an opinion on extending the release period of Khaleda Zia for another six months on the previous conditions. She cannot go abroad. We have sent our opinion to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The rest of the process will be done from there."

Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in two corruption cases, was temporarily released as per the executive order of the government on March 25.

She was released after her sentence was suspended for six months. The release period is going to expire on September 24 of this year.

The law ministry, in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure, has sent a recommendation to the home ministry in this regard.
