Former Jamaat MP Shahjahan Chowdhury arrested in sabotage case

Police arrested former Jamaat-e-Islami MP Shahjahan Chowdhury from Chamdarpara of Satkania Upazila on Friday night in a sabotage case.

Chittagong District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said Shahjahan Chowdhury was found to be involved in the sabotage of Hifazat in Hathazari. He has been shown arrested in a sabotage case.

Shahjahan is the former Naib-e-Amir of Chittagong Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami.

He was elected Member of Parliament twice from Satkania-Lohagara constituency in 1991 and 2001. He was convicted of corruption during the post-One-Eleven state of emergency. Shahjahan Chowdhury was not nominated in the 2008 parliamentary elections.

During the war of liberation, Shahjahan Chowdhury, the leader of Islami Chhatra Sangha, formed a huge cadre force in Satkania-Lohagara and in the metropolis in the nineties. During that time, he was accused of killing many leaders and activists involved in Awami League and BNP politics.
