BNP-Police clash at Chandrima Udyan, 50 injured

At leas 50 people were injured during clash between police and BNP leader and activists at Chandrima Udyan in the capital on Tuesday morning.

The clash erupted when the newly formed convening committee of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP went to lay flowers at the grave of Ziaur Rahman.

The clash started after 10:30 am. BNP leaders and activists were seen throwing brickbats at the police. Police were seen throwing tear shells in response. Sporadic clashes between police and BNP leaders and activists were going on, leaving at least 50 injured.

According to the party, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP member secretary Aminul Haque, joint convener Ferdousi Ahmed Misty and several others were injured during the clash.

Aminul Haque said, “We came to lay flowers at Ziaur Rahman's grave. Permission was taken from the police. But the police blocked all the way to enter Zia's grave. At one point the police fired tear gas and shells at us. Several of our leaders and activists were injured.”

However, the police claimed that BNP did not take any official permission in this regard.
