Jatiya Party Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu no more

Jatiya Party Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu died on Saturday at a hospital in the city. 

He was 67.

Bablu breathed his last around 9:20am while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital at Shamoli in Dhaka, Jatiya Party chairman's adviser Monirul Islam Milon told The Daily Samakal.

His body will be kept at Jatiya Party's central office at Kakrail from 1pm to 3pm for people to pay respect, party sources said.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held after Esha prayers at Azad Mosque in Gulshan. Later, he will be buried in Martyred Intellectual Graveyard at Mirpur.

Born in 1954 in Chattogram, Bablu was elected MP from Chattogram-9 in 2014.

During late president HM Ershad's regime in 1980s, he served as the cabinet minister for the Ministry of Power Energy and Mineral resources

Bablu was appointed as an advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in November 2013.

From 1981 to 1983, he was the general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League. He also served Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) as its general secretary at the same time.

In 2020, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu was made party's secretary general after removing Moshiur Rahman Ranga.

His first wife Farida Sarkar died in 2005 from cancer. They had a sonBablu married Dr. Mehe Zebunnesa Rahman, a relative of HM Ershad, in April 2017.

After completing his Higher Secondary School Certificate from Notre Dame College, Dhaka, Bablu did his Bachelors in Arts and Master's degree from Dhaka University in English Literature, and also a Bachelor of Laws from the same institution.
