Sheikh Hasina's homecoming day tomorrow

Tuesday will mark the 42nd homecoming day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

She returned to the country on May 17, 1981, after a long exile.

Sheikh Hasina arrived at the erstwhile Kurmitola Airport here at 4.30 p.m. on an Indian Airlines flight from the Indian capital of New Delhi via Kolkata.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, was brutally murdered along with most of his family on August 15, 1975, and his two daughters, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, avoided the slaughter by staying abroad.

"I have returned to the country not to become a leader of the Awami League, but to engage in the war for liberation by staying by the people," the AL president stated during a heartfelt welcome given by almost 1.5 million people at the airport at the time.

"I want to stay by you as your sister, as your daughter, and as an Awami League worker who believes in Bangabandhu's beliefs," she concluded.

Various organizations, including the Awami League, will organize various programs on Sheikh Hasina's homecoming day.

To commemorate the day, special doa and prayers would be conducted at mosques, temples, churches, and pagodas.
