Mahmudullah propels Sk Jamal to 5th win

Captain Mahmudullah’s all-round performance helped Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club earn the 5th victory in their 8th match of the Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League beating Brothers Union by 11 runs at BKSP ground in Savar on Thursday, reports the UNB.

 

With the day’s feat, Sheikh Jamal DC brightened their chance to reach the super league securing 10 points from eight matches as they advanced to the 4th slot in the league table while Brothers Union bagged eight points from eight outings.

 

Dhaka Mohammedan SC and Prime Doleshwar SC dominated the points table securing 12 points each from eight league engagements while Legend of Rupganj moved into 3rd place collecting 11 points from eight matches.  

 

Sent in to bat first, Sheikh Jamal DC piled up a moderate 252 for 8 in stipulated 50 overs featuring a century by Mahmudullah Riyad. 

 

After the departure of two openers for 52 runs in 13 overs, skipper Mahmudullah pairing with one down Marshall Ayub carried the team total to 171 contributing 119 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.

 

Reliable national all-rounder Mahmudullah, who came to batting in number four, completed his 2nd century in the league hammering 107 runs off 114 balls hitting five fours and three sixes while Marshall Ayub scored a half century making 84-ball 54 runs with three fours.

 

Besides, opener Abdullah Al Mamun (27), national colored Shohag Gazi (17) and Muktar Ali (16) were the other notable scorers for Sheikh Jamal DC.

 

Sanjit Saha grabbed three wickets for 69 runs while Nur Alam took two for 32 runs.

 

Chasing a target of 253 runs, the Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union fought hard for their existence and were forced to fold their innings at 241 for 8 in allocated 50 overs featuring two half centuries by Imrul Kayes and Tushar Imran.

 

National opener Imrul Kayes contributed 70 runs off 91 deliveries hitting five fours and two sixes while former national cricketer Tushar Imran scored 75-ball 55 runs with six hits to the fence.

 

Besides, Arma Hossain (not out 26), national coloured opener Shahriar Nafees (20), Miland Kumar ( 20), Zakir Hasan (12) and Nur Alam (10) were the other major contributors for Brothers reaching the double figures.

 

Century maker Mahmudullah also displayed his brilliance in bowling grabbing three wickets for 29 runs and was adjudged man of the match. National colored pacer Shafiul Islam claimed two wickets for 40 runs.
