Cricketers bracing themselves for Eid vacation

Given to overseas duty as the cricketing schedule dictates, it isn’t every Eid that members of the national team, our beloved Tigers, find themselves free to enjoy the occasion with loved ones at home. This year though, presents one such occasion, and the players are sure to make the best of it. UNB tracked down some of the Tigers to inquire about their plans. 

 

Nasir Hossain

 

Called Bangladesh’s very own ‘The Wall’ for his agile fielding ability, he talked to UNB about how he planned on celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr in his hometown of Rangpur.

 

After finishing his prayers at the local Eidgah mosque, he goes to pay his respects to his deceased relatives at their graves, after which his mother’s home-cooked dishes await. He added that there are no separate plans for him this Eid.

 

Eid was more entertaining for him before he got famous, he revealed. ‘Now I cannot do everything freely and cannot enjoy Eid as much as I would like’.

 

He jokingly admits to still taking Eid salami from his elders, but after becoming a star he gives a lot more than he gets.

 

Nasir wished everyone a prosperous Eid in advance and prayed for everyone’s better health.

 

 

 

Sabbir Rahman Rumman

 

One of the best finds in the Bangladesh cricket team in a long time, this hard-hitting T20 specialist plans on celebrating this Eid at Rajshahi with his family.

 

After the morning prayers, he cannot wait to indulge in his mother’s vermicelli (shemai) and beef hotchpotch, her specialty.

 

After that he plans on driving his friends himself from Rajshahi to Chapainawabganj and visiting the historic Sona Masjid.

 

‘After becoming a star everyone started knowing me’, he said, ‘though it is not always possible to appease my fans but I try as much as possible’.

 

Similar to Nasir, he gives more Eid salami than he receives in return.

 

He wished everyone the best for Eid so that everyone could equally celebrate it with their respective families.

 

 

 

Al-Amin Hossain

 

Similar to the previous two, the Jhenaidah-born Al-Amin Hossain is one of Bangladesh’s top pace bowling discoveries in recent times. For Eid, he will go back to his hometown, where he expects to celebrate Eid like he used to before becoming famous.

 

After the Eid prayers, he intends to visit the graves of his deceased relatives and pray for their souls.

 

He ensures to make time for his family and friends, but laments that his position as a star hinders his free movement unlike previous times.

 

After Eid he intends to visit a foreign country with his wife, but refused to reveal the name of the country.
