Bangladesh to play against Maldives

A new era will begin for football in 2026, as in that year, 48 teams will take part in the FIFA World Cup, as opposed to the previous format of 32 teams.

The US, Canada, and Mexico will host the event. The qualifying round will start in October next year.

On Thursday, The draw for the first round of joint qualifiers of the world cup was held at AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The draw pit Bangladesh against a familiar opponent, the Maldives.

Bangladesh (ranked 189th) will first play the away match on October 12 before hosting Maldives (ranked 155th) on October 17.
