Tamim Iqbal hospitalized after cardiac arrest during game

Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladesh captain, suffered from a cardiac arrest midway through a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club. He was hospitalised and a stenting operation was performed. 

The incident occurred in the first innings of the 50-overs-a-side contest. Tamim received first aid at BKSP. Afterwards, he was admitted to the nearby Fazilatunnesa Hospital, BCB's medical wing said. He is under treatment at the Cardiac Unit of the hospital. An angiogram was performed and a block was found. He is now recovering. 

Mohammedan official Toriqul Islam Titu told the Daily Samakal said, initially a helicopter was arranged for Tamim's movement to the Evercare Hospital. However, he could not be flown from the BKSP ground in Savar. 

"By the grace of Allah, his [Tamim's] condition right now is better. He had a heart attack. For that, an angiogram, angioplasty and stenting was done. By the grace of Allah, the stenting was really smooth and efficient. The block [in his artery] has been completely removed," the hospital's media director Dr Rajib Hasan told the media in a press briefing.

Although Tamim's condition is improving after the surgery he is still not out of danger yet, said the physican.

"His condition was critical. Even after the stenting he is in observation, he is still in critical condition, it will take some time. All of us are trying heart and soul. Everyone please for Tamim bhai."
