BCB allows Mustafiz to play two matches in IPL

Delhi Capitals (DC) have added Mustafizur Rahman to their squad, replacing Australian opener Jack Fraser McGurk. 

However, due to national team policy, Mustafizur, known for his cutter bowling, will miss some of DC’s remaining matches as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted him clearance to play only in DC’s last two IPL matches.

BCB director Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu stated on Thursday, “Mustafizur is currently in the UAE for the national team. As per board policy, players on national duty aren’t cleared for other commitments. He’ll be available for DC’s remaining matches after the UAE series.”

Bangladesh is scheduled to play a two-match T20 series against the UAE on May 17 and 19. Meanwhile, DC has a match on May 18, which Mustafizur will miss. 

He will, however, be available for DC’s games against Mumbai Indians on May 21 and Punjab Kings on May 24.

DC currently ranks fifth in the IPL points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive for matches on May 29, 30, and June 1. It’s uncertain if Mustafizur will be cleared for the playoffs, as Bangladesh has a T20 series against Pakistan starting May 27, and he may be required for that tour.

Mustafizur’s full-season IPL salary is estimated at Rs 6 crore. He’ll earn approximately Rs 8.55 lakh, equivalent to about Tk1.2 crore as he’s initially cleared to play for the two matches.
