Shanto steps down as Bangladesh Test captain

Najmul Hossain Shanto resigned as Bangladesh's Test captain after a crushing innings and 78-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the second Test at Colombo's SSC on Saturday, sealing a 1-0 series loss.

Shanto stepped down from his final captaincy role for Bangladesh, having recently been succeeded by Litton Das as T20I captain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz as ODI captain, appointed by the BCB on June 12.

Leading Bangladesh in 14 Tests—the fifth-highest by any Bangladeshi captain—Shanto secured four wins, making him the second-most successful Test captain for Bangladesh in terms of victories. 

Among captains with more than one Test, his win-loss ratio and win percentage are the best in the country’s Test history.
