Bulbul re-elected BCB president, Shakhawat, Farooq named vice presidents

Aminul Islam Bulbul has been re-elected unopposed as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a three-year term. 

The former cricketer, who first assumed the presidency in May 2024, was chosen by the board’s directors.

Shakhawat Hossain, a tourism sector expert and BCB Director from Barishal Division, was elected Vice President (One). Previously, he served as an adviser to BCB President Bulbul on cricket tourism. 

Meanwhile, former cricketer Farooq Ahmed was elected Vice President (Two). Farooq, who briefly held the BCB presidency until May 2024, secured the role despite speculation that former BKSP coach Nazmul Abedin Fahim would be appointed. 

Shakhawat’s election came as a surprise to many.

The election process took place on Monday at a five-star hotel in Dhaka. 

Voting for councilors concluded by 4:00 pm, followed by the announcement of elected directors. 

Subsequently, the directors voted for the president and vice-president positions, with the BCB election commission formally declaring the results.

Bulbul was nominated as a councilor from Dhaka Division and elected as a director. Farooq Ahmed secured a director’s position from the club category. In total, 25 directors participated in the elections, with 10 elected from district and divisional categories, 12 from the club category, one from the former cricketer and organisations category, and two from the National Sports Council (NSC). 

Bulbul faced no opposition for the presidency.
