Bangladesh triumphs over Maldives to claim inaugural SAFF Women's Futsal Championship Title

Bangladesh has emerged victorious in the inaugural edition of the SAFF Women's Futsal Championship. 

Under the leadership of captain Sabina Khatun, the team delivered a commanding performance by defeating Maldives with an emphatic 14-2 scoreline in the decisive final match held in Bangkok on Sunday. 

This resounding win secured their status as undefeated champions of the tournament.

Sabina Khatun was the standout performer in the title-clinching encounter, scoring an impressive four goals single-handedly. 

Her exceptional form throughout the competition saw her finish as the top scorer with a total of 13 goals. 

The match saw Bangladesh take a commanding 6-1 lead by halftime, after which they unleashed another eight goals in the second half, turning the game into a one-sided affair against Maldives. 

This 14-2 result stands as the record for the highest number of goals scored in a single match during the tournament.

In the overall standings of this seven-team competition, Bangladesh topped the table with 16 points, achieved through five wins and one draw across their six matches. 

The team demonstrated remarkable defensive solidity as well, conceding only nine goals while netting an impressive 38 in total. 

Their unbeaten run included a draw against Bhutan and another against India, showcasing consistency and resilience throughout the campaign.

While the Bangladesh men's team faced challenges and disappointments in the same tournament, the women's side brought immense pride and glory to the nation with their historic achievement.
