Tamim bags record highest votes in BCB board of directors’ election

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after securing a record-breaking number of votes in the Dhaka club category. 

Representing Old DOHS in Category-2, Tamim got an impressive 73 votes, the highest individual tally among all candidates, marking a dominant debut in cricket administration.

The election took place on Sunday at the BCB’s boardroom in the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

On the occasion of voting, the stadium premises were seen bustling with voters from the early hours of the day. 

Voting concluded at 4 pm, and following a rigorous counting process, the final results were announced by 6 pm. 

The contest saw a strong turnout, with 74 out of a possible 76 votes cast in the club category.

Sixteen candidates contested the election for the 12 available director positions. Trailing closely behind Tamim’s historic 73 votes were Syed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khasru, who each gained 72 votes. Masuduzzaman followed with 70 votes, while Yasir Faisal rounded out the top five with 68 votes. 

Further down the successful list, Fahim Sinha and Shahnian Tanim were tied on 66 votes. 

Sakef Ahmed Salam polled 65 votes, followed by Asif Rabbani and Mirza Yasir Abbas, who secured 64 and 63 votes respectively. 

The final two elected candidates were Rafiqul Islam Babu and Dr Mahbub Shamim, who got 53 and 41 votes to claim the remaining seats.

Four candidates ultimately failed to secure a place on the board. 

Borhanul Pappu was the highest of the unsuccessful contenders, finishing with 40 votes. He was followed by Amzad Hossain with 32 votes, Fayazur Rahman Mitu with 23 votes, and Major Imroz Ahmed, who concluded the tally with 20 votes.
