Two more BPL officials banned over fixing scandal

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has taken action against two additional officials over allegations of corruption surrounding the last two editions of the Bangladesh Premier League.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the BCB announced that both accused individuals have been temporarily banned.

One of the accused is Md. Abdul Kaiyum Rashed, the former owner of Chattogram Royals. The other is Md. Amin Khan, a former official associated with Durbar Rajshahi in the 11th edition and Chattogram Royals in the 12th edition.

The charges against them were brought based on an investigation by the BCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit.

Kaiyum Rashed faces allegations of violating four articles of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code. These include attempting to influence the outcome or course of a match, failing to timely report corrupt approaches or communications, refusing to cooperate with the investigation, and obstructing or delaying the investigation process.

The Board has also cited the failure to surrender the primary mobile phone used by him to BCB anti-corruption officials as an instance of non-cooperation with the investigation. The charges state that, as a result, it was impossible to conduct a forensic examination of the phone or verify potentially crucial communications and information.

Charges under four counts have also been brought against Amin Khan. He is accused of attempting to influence the outcome or any aspect of a match unethically, encouraging or assisting a participant in corrupt conduct, failing to cooperate with the investigation, and concealing or destroying important communications or information.

The BCB stated that both individuals will have 14 days to submit their responses after receiving the notice of charges. This opportunity has been granted as part of the ongoing disciplinary process in accordance with the ICC’s anti-corruption code.
