Apple apologises for iPhones with 'Error 53'

The apple authorities have backed down and released a software update designed to restore iPhones affected by Error 53, a bug encountered when customers had their handsets repaired by non-Apple technicians.

 

Error 53 is displayed when the iPhone fails a security test, and was designed to check whether the fingerprint scanner verification method Touch ID was working before the iPhone left the factory, Apple confirmed, adding it was not intended to affect customers, The Telegraph has reported.

 

'We apologise for any inconvenience, this was designed to be a factory test and was not intended to affect customers,' it said.

 

Earlier this month customers complained of their phones being rendered useless following repairs made to the display or home button by a non-Apple repair worker when they attempted to upgrade their software.

 

The handsets displayed a message reading: "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (53)".

 

The company said in a statement that the new iOS 9.2.1 update will allow customers affected by Error 53 to successfully restore their phone to working order using iTunes on your Mac or PC.
