Japan keen to hire IT engineers from Bangladesh

Kazushige Nobutani, president of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), said Japanese businesses want to hire Bangladeshi IT engineers while automobile companies are eager to make investments in this country.

The chief of JETRO made the disclosure during meeting with the state minister for information and communications technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, at his office in the Agargaon on Sunday, according to a press release.

Nobutani praised the current government for the extensive infrastructure improvements and initiatives carried out in several sectors, including the information and communications technology industry, under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

As part of the Enhancing Digital Government and Economy (EDGE) Project, Palak notified the head of JETRO that the ICT Division will implement skill development programs in response to the needs of the Japanese IT sector.

In order to attract Japanese investment to Bangladesh's high-tech parks, he sought JETRO's support.

The development of Bangladesh's information technology (IT) sector and the cimplementation of a "Smart Bangladesh" were additional topics of discussion during the meeting between Japan and Bangladesh.

The discussion also covered expanding startup exchange and business cooperation between Japanese private sector and Bangladeshi IT companies.

The meeting was attended by the concerned JETRO authorities as well as Md Shamsul Arefin, the ICT Division's secretary.
