Submarine cable breakdown disrupts internet service

Internet connection through the country's second submarine cable (SEA-ME-WE 5) has been broken since around midnight on Friday. As a result, internet service across the country was disrupted. 

Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) President Emdadul Haque said consumers have complained about slow internet service. 

Bangladesh Submarine Cables Managing Director Mirza Kamal Ahmed said 1,600 GBPS bandwidth of internet is supplied to the country via SEA-ME-WE 5. It is now closed. We are trying to use an alternative measure using SEA-ME-WE 4 (first submarine cable). 

He also said due to the breakage of the submarine cable in Singapore, some countries aside from Bangladesh is also facing this problem. By Saturday afternoon we will know when this problem may be solved.
