RTI act influential for SDG achievement

The right to information (RTI) act's successful implementation could be the most effective way of enhancing the government's efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

For accelerating growth and promoting good governance across society, full implementation of the RTI legislation with unrestricted flow of information by all government and non-government organizations affected is required.

On Saturday, at a daylong training program on RTI for government officials and personnel at Hotel Warisan in this city, the observation was made.

The training was held at the Association for Community Development (ACD) and was funded by the Carter Centre's "Advancing Women's Right of Access to Information in Bangladesh" project.

Ensuring responsiveness of the public offices for providing information in an efficient and equitable manner was the main objective of the workshop. 

With ACD Executive Director Salima Sarwar in the chair, the inaugural session was addressed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque and Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development Golam Mahbub as the chief and special guests respectively. Rokhsana Afroz from the Carter Centre also spoke.
