China's envoy to US congratulates Kissinger on 100th birthday

China's new ambassador to Washington Xie Feng called on US former national security adviser and secretary of state Henry Kissinger on Friday.

On behalf of Beijing, Xie congratulated Kissinger on turning 100, reports the South China Morning Post.

Xie and Kissinger had an “in-depth exchange of views on China-US relations and international and regional issues of common concern,” reads a brief statement issued by the Chinese embassy.

Kissinger, who turned 100 on Saturday, has long ties with China. He has contributed to normalising US-China ties in the 1970s and has since maintained ties with Chinese leaders and officials, regardless of strains in the bilateral relationship.
