1 Mumbai teenager dead, 2 missing after venturing into rough sea

A teenager died and two others went missing from Mumbai's Juhu beach on Monday when they ventured into the turbulent sea despite warnings from a lifeguard, reports NDTV.

The sea at Juhu beach became rough with violent waves due to the impending Cyclone 'Biparjoy', expected to make landfall between India's Kutch and Pakistan's Karachi on Thursday.

A group of five teenagers, all between the ages of 12-16 years, went missing nearly a kilometre from the shore on Monday. Two of them were rescued by local fishermen. Another 16-year-old boy was rescued and brought to the hospital, where duty doctors declared him dead.

A search was carried out overnight, but two other boys remained missing. Divers from the Navy and Coast Guard were called in, but they remained on standby as the sea remained turbulent.
