Heavy rain in India: Schools closed in 4 districts

Heavy rains lashed coastal areas in India on Sunday, putting an end to a long bout of heatwave. However, the inclement weather made authorities close schools in Chennai and its neighbouring districts of Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur, besides Vellore and Ranipet, reports NDTV.

The weather also caused the diversion of six Chennai-bound international flights to Bengaluru, as well as delaying a dozen more international flights.

Light to moderate rain may continue till June 21 in Chennai and several districts, the Indian met office forecast.
