10 Killed, several injured in Odisha bus accident

A head-on collision between two buses killed at least ten people and injured eight others in India's Odisha late on Sunday, reports NDTV.

Meanwhile, Times of India said at least 12 – all members of a marriage party – died in the incident which happened near Digapahandi on Berhampur-Taptapani Road in Ganjam of Odisha.

The news media also claimed that the deceased included seven members of the same family.

Citing officials, NDTV also said the injured were rushed to the MKCG Medical College for treatment.

"Investigation into the case is underway. We are trying to provide all possible help to the injured," District Magistrate of Ganjam Dibya Jyoti Parida said while talking to reporters.

Regarding the tragic accident, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief through a tweet, announcing ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
