New York features Bangla ballots for US polls

New York City offers ballots in Bangla for the upcoming US presidential elections, Times of India reports. This decision stems from a lawsuit settlement which aimed to improve voter participation within the city's substantial Bangla-speaking South Asian Community. Bangla joins Chinese, Spanish, and Korean as the only languages besides English available on ballots. 

New York City's linguistic diversity encompasses over 200 languages. However, for the US presidential elections, only the five languages above will be available for ballot papers. 

"We are required to service four other languages besides English. It is Chinese, Spanish, Korean, and Bengali as the Asian languages," said Micheal J Ryan, executive director, Board of Elections, NYC.
