More Israeli attacks as death toll in Gaza rises to 16

Israeli forces are renewing their attacks on the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah, Al Jazeera reports.

In Khan Younis, tents and homes housing displaced Palestinians to the east and west of the city are under attack.

The assault comes as the death toll since the early hours of the morning rose to 16.

Israeli forces attacked the Nasser Hospital in Gaza, killing at least two people, including Hamas leader Ismail Barhoum. His assassination comes hours after Israeli forces bombed a tent in al-Mawasi in Gaza and killed a second member of Hamas’s Political Bureau, Salah al-Bardawil.

Meanwhile, US air strikes have hit two areas in Yemen, including a densely populated neighbourhood in the capital, Sanaa, killing at least one person and wounding 15 others.

Gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 50,021 Palestinians have been confirmed dead and 113,274 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. Gaza’s Government Media Office updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of Palestinians missing under the rubble are presumed dead.

At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attacks and more than 200 taken captive.
