Heavy rains hit Sikkim, roads damaged in landslides

Incessant heavy rain has caused damage to the National Highway-10 of India, which connects Sikkim to West Bengal. Landslides have blocked the highway in Melli and Likhuvir areas, causing a truck to veer off the road. As a result, road communication between West Bengal and Sikkim has halted. 

Meanwhile, landslides have also halted traffic on the Namchi-Jorthang road. 

Authorities have started efforts to clear the roads. Border Road Organisation (BRO) have joined the efforts with hi-tech machinery and rescue personnel. 

According to locals, heavy rain started on Wednesday, which led to landslides. The blocked roads have caused many tourists and traders to become stranded. 

Authorities have asked tourists not to use the NH-10 before the situation improves. They were also asked to use alternate routes.
