At least 82 dead, 41 missing in Texas flood

At least 82 people have died and dozens are still missing after devastating floods hit central Texas. Rescuers are still searching for at least 41 people missing, according to state and local officials. 

In Kerr County, one of the hardest-hit areas, at least 40 adults and 28 children have been killed, CNN reports citing officials.

New rain has already started to swell waterways in Kerr County, the sheriff warns. Gov. Greg Abbott said flash flooding continues to pose a danger for several parts of Texas as "more heavy rainfall" is expected. 

BBC reports citing officials that the death toll is certain to rise. More storms are expected in the next 24-48 hours in the region, which could hamper rescue teams who are already facing venomous snakes as they sift through mud and debris.

Three days after the inundation, one of the largest search-and-rescue efforts in recent Texas history was shifting towards a recovery operation.

Of those recovered in Kerr County, 18 adults and 10 children have yet to be formally identified.
