Buses carrying Palestinian prisoners arrive in Ramallah

Release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails began on Monday after Hamas frees all 20 living Israeli captives held in the Gaza Strip as part of ceasefire deal, Al Jazeera reports.

Israel is releasing 250 Palestinian prisoners and more than 1,700 detainees - the first groups have begun arriving in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank and Gaza. 

Enormous crowds have cheered the released Palestinians getting off the buses that transported them from Ofer Prison to Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

Family members and friends were seen hugging the men upon their arrival.

Earlier, all 20 living hostages in Gaza were handed over to to the Israeli military. 

US President Donald Trump has arrived in Israel, where he will address the Knesset before heading to Egypt to co-chair an international summit on the deal.

Palestinians continue to return to what is left of their homes in northern Gaza as desperately needed humanitarian aid begins trickling into the Strip.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 67,869 people and wounded 170,105 since October 2023. A total of 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023 attacks, and about 200 were taken captive.
