Dozens dead, 100 injured in Swiss ski resort fire

"Several dozens" of people are presumed to have died in a fire in a bar at a Swiss ski resort, BBC reports citing authorities.

Around 100 injured are injured, with "several nationalities" involved, Swiss authorities said during a news conference.

BBC says 10 helicopters, 40 ambulances and 150 responders were sent to the scene. The majority of those injured are "significantly" injured with severe burns. Most have been sent to Valais hospital - its intensive care unit is now full, Mathias Reynard, the region's council leader says.

The fire began at around 01:30 (00:30 GMT) in a bar called Le Constellation, police say. The cause is not known, although police initially said there had been an explosion. The local prosecutor says there is "no question" of an attack.

Swiss news outlet Blick suggests the fire may have been caused by fireworks during a concert - but police say the cause is unknown.

Crans-Montana is a luxury ski resort town located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, approximately two hours from the Swiss capital of Bern.
