BJP says oath-taking ceremony to take place on May 9

The BJP is set to form its first-ever government in West Bengal on May 9 after scripting history in a state that had long remained an impenetrable fortress of Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The BJP won 207 of the state's 294 seats, while the Trinamool could manage 80 seats, reports NDTV.

In a double shock for Banerjee, she also lost her Bhabanipur stronghold to her former lieutenant, Suvendu Adhikari, now a BJP leader who was serving as the leader of opposition in the outgoing state assembly. Banerjee, the chief minister since 2011, alleged "loot of seats".
