Gunmen shoot dead 12 near Johannesburg: S. African police

More than 10 gunmen stormed an informal settlement near Johannesburg and shot dead 12 people overnight, South African police said on Wednesday.

The mass shooting happened shortly after 11:00pm Tuesday, after more than 10 armed people drove to the area and stormed the settlement, a police spokeswoman said.

"Preliminary investigations reveal that 12 people died as a result of the attack," Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said.
