CA Yunus to be accompanied by two more Jamaat, NCP leaders

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser attending the UN General Assembly session, will be joined by two additional leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami and the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP). 

The delegation includes Dr. Naqibur Rahman Tarek, son of former Jamaat Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, and Dr. Tasnim Zara, joint convener of the NCP.

Dr. Yunus is scheduled to depart for the United States from Dhaka on Sunday night. 

Accompanying him will be BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Jamaat Nayeb-e-Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher, and NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.

Sources from Jamaat and NCP revealed that, as the delegation already included two BNP leaders, the government requested each party to send two representatives. 

Due to time constraints in processing visas, only individuals with existing U.S. visas were selected. 

Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher informed daily Samakal that Dr. Naqibur Rahman, currently in the United States, will join the chief adviser’s delegation there. 

Meanwhile, NCP Joint Member Secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat confirmed to Daily Samakal that Dr. Tasnim Zara will travel to the United States on Sunday night.

Historically, the prime minister’s delegation to the UN General Assembly included ministers and leaders from the ruling party. 

This marks the first instance of opposition party leaders being included in such a delegation. 

Previously, when Sheikh Hasina, ousted during the July popular uprising, was prime minister, she attended the UN session with a large delegation. 

Last year, Dr. Yunus led an eight-member delegation to the UN, and this year, he is including political leaders from non-ruling parties.
