24 garment factories achieves green certificates in six months: BGMEA

Twenty-four garment factories in Bangladesh have been recognized for their green initiatives by receiving the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) awards from the US Green Building Council. 

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Wednesday stated that 16 of the factories received Platinum ratings, while 8 were awarded Gold ratings. 

So far, Bangladesh's total number of LEED green factories is 206, 76 Platinum-rated and 116 Gold-rated, said the BGMEA. 

The BGMEA also mentioned that 54 Bangladeshi factories are included in the list of the world's top 100 LEED green factories, further solidifying Bangladesh's position as a global leader in sustainable manufacturing. 

This achievement is expected to attract more investment and partnerships in the future, it hoped.
