If we are to find out sectors that are yet to come to its fullest potential in Bangladesh then healthcare would top the list. When you say “healthcare”, this can mean a lot of things. This industry has many different opportunities for employment, and this includes clinical care, administration, sales & marketing, hospital management, housekeeping, customer service, laboratory work, technical work, information technology, food & nutrition and many more. There are many careers to choose from when it comes to this sector, and all one need to do is to find the one that best suits oneself. In Bangladesh, this has been predominantly government driven job sector. But for the last few years private investors have started to come in. This opens a lot of opportunities career wise. If we are to point out three major reasons to select healthcare as a job sector, then that would be:

Good Salary & job growth: Most of the healthcare companies pay well in terms of salary and benefits. Stability is something one can expect with a career in this industry. This is because of the fact that people will always need healthcare. This translates to a constant need for qualified and trained individuals to fill the many positions that are in the healthcare sector. As the demand will always be there, it translates into a steady job growth as well.

Meet and know people: If you are a people person, then this choice is ideal for you. Since this industry involves taking care of people and their health needs, you will find that interacting with individuals is a norm here. You may find yourself working with others in a lab or a clinic, or working with a patient one-on-one. How many people you interact with, and what kind of collaboration, is usually dependent on the kind of healthcare career you choose to work in.

Make a difference in people’s lives: Quite a number of individuals go into healthcare not only because of the many perks that they get from it, but also because of the idea that they are helping others. Making a difference in the lives of those you help brings about a sense of fulfillment that cannot be bought or paid for. This is one of the things that help keep medical professionals going even when they are tired and have been working for hours on end – the feeling that they are making a difference and they are helping others.

To be successful in this industry, one has to be extrovert, people friendly and compassionate towards others. Bangladesh, with 160 million population, will always need good healthcare infrastructure and facilities related to healthcare. As such one’s career in this sector can only be growing along with the satisfaction of serving the humanity.
