Beauty and Grooming is just not a desire but also a need in every society; it is hygiene which is important for our self-wellbeing and confidence. Having worked in this sector for more than two decades, I have had the privilege to see this industry through a close lens. Personal sustenance and flourishment in this sector carry its share of personal challenges, taboos and complexities since it has always remained unstructured and primitive.
Moreover, just like success in any sector comes at a price and I too had to pay for it dearly. I had to overcome multiple difficult and delicate moments, personal sacrifices and financial challenges to be able to create a niche and mark for myself. I have always believed that humility, compassion and focus as the key strategic pivots to success and in my endeavour to stay in the forefront of the industry, I have tried to give my equal share of importance to all the three elements.
The other mantra which I strongly inculcate in all my wishes is that you need to fall in love with what you do to remain happy and content. And this is something which applies to both your personal and professional life. The moment things are followed in such a simplistic manner, work and personal commitments turn into hobbies and passion. Every day turns out to be your weekend and holiday and work and life becomes fun and enjoyable.
Bangladesh is experiencing a major economic transformation and is on the verge of a boom. This sector too is going through a similar shift and will continue to blossom and grow faster than the other sectors in the coming decade. It is also heartening to notice that now there are many professionals who are looking to enter this profession and make this their career. This will make the industry an attractive destination for talent movement and retention.
However, for the professionals in Beauty and Grooming Industry to succeed, it will be important that they spend time learning and understanding the hard and soft skills attached to the business. Without knowing the subject and learning the ropes, it will not be easy to sustain given the increasing complexity.
When I had embarked upon the journey, the urge was to learn every finer piece of the job and even today, my journey continues. My advice to every newcomer to the industry would be that If one can continue to remain a student and an avid learner, you are bound to stumble upon success and joy at the end of every road that you reach.
