The technological development influences most widely and intensely in our daily life. It has crucial impact in our personal life, social life, political and economic space. It also influences to shaping up our behavior, taste, thought and daily practices.
As a writer and filmmaker, I have observed these changes in our reading habit and entertainment. In my childhood, I lived in a village. And I saw my mother saving batteries for her radio to listen her favorite Polligiti (folksong). Because, there was no electricity, television or newspaper. Even she read the same story book again and again. Because she don’t have many options of entertainment. But within just twenty years of time span she has access to hundreds of cable channel in television and can watch thousands of programs. Even she can watch videos in mobile phone through YouTube. They are so attached with the technology that they can’t even think of daily life without Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Games and other apps. Which created enormous ways of entertainment for them it has disconnected them from reading novels or story books.
It seems a new crisis has started in our reading habit and entertainment with this massive changes. The writers and publishers were scared that the number of readers and selling of creative books were decreasing day by day. It may create permanent crisis and there are no way to prevent this. But eventually we have adapted with those crisis and this adaptation process giving us new hopes. As a young writer, I think these crisis turn into new possibilities in time. Now the question is how? It’s like using the same technology to fight the crisis. We started to use the same technology, social media platform and apps to spread the campaign for reading books. Which starts a new era of possibilities.
The book lovers are using Facebook, twitter, YouTube as a platform to spread their love for books and arranging various exciting events like book review competition, and study circle, which make readers more and more interested in reading new books.
Even only six or seven years ago writers and publishers didn’t show any interest in the campaigning of books in social media. But now a days they appeared very active and using digital platforms and social media for advertising their books. And these made a huge positive impulsion in book market. It has also created the best ever possibilities for marketing of books. Now a day’s e-book, audio book are also very popular. They made reading very convenient for tech savvy people. Which also motivate the whole publication industry. Every changes make the people confused and divided.
Hence, we can’t ignore the changes. We have to adapt with the changes and find out the positive outcome and spread it within the society. I believe, tomorrow is full of dreams and possibilities. The role of the youth is to spread the dream and possibilities all the way.
